Mental Health Week is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of taking care of our mental health, especially during such challenging times. Unfortunately, not all people are afforded the same ability to take care of their mental state. That’s why we at SLS want to put an emphasis on how our services contribute to helping those in need cope with any issues they may have with their mental well-being. Lingfield supported living service sanctioned over abuse
A supported living service in Surrey has been placed in special measures after inspectors found people experienced physical and verbal abuse from others living with them.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated Head Office, run by Mitchell’s Care Homes Limited, as inadequate.
The company provides a supported living service in Lingfield to autistic people and people with a learning disability.
The CQC said it had taken “further enforcement action” to protect people.
Damning report says inadequate care service put people put 'at risk of avoidable harm’
A care service has been placed in special measures after inspectors found vulnerable people were ‘at risk of avoidable harm’. The Elms, in Middleton, provides supported living and home care services to people with autism, learning disabilities and sensory impairments.
But a damning report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rates it as ‘inadequate’ – and says it faces being shut down if it does not make significant improvements over the next six months. It comes after a series of inspections which discovered serious failings – including several breaches of care regulations – by the Milton Street-based service.

Most seniors in America can’t afford nursing homes or assisted living, study finds
As many as 80% of aging adults in America lack the financial resources to pay for two years of nursing home care or four years of an assisted living community.
That’s according to a new study from the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and the LeadingAge LTSS Center at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Additionally, 60% of older adults — or 24 million households — would not have the funds to pay for in-home long-term care, despite the fact that they would prefer to “age in place,” per a report from NCOA.
What could a government cap on care fees mean for you?

The government is now proposing to put an £86,000 cap on care fees from October 2025.
The aim is to help make care fees planning easier and reduce the amount that some individuals need to pay for social care.
